There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
